‘Old MacDonald had a farm’ is a traditional children’s song that can be developed, through this activity, into a multilingual song of your choosing.

This activity can be delivered in one or two sessions and focuses on exploring the similarities and differences in language, in addition to the noises made by the animals living on ‘Old MacDonald’s Farm’.

The first lesson could focus on drawing farm animals, identifying their names and noises made, in different languages. This could be followed by second lesson where the children collectively produce and perform a multilingual version of the popular nursery rhythm.

Delivery is not dependent on children speaking heritage languages, but can involve them researching and learning about different languages.
