The Lost Wor(l)ds blog hosts book reviews for books which feature nature, the environment, and conservation. This activity encourages children to write a book review themselves, with the possibility of having in published on the Lost Wor(l)ds website.

The book review template for download is provided in Word format, enabling children to fill it in electronically, potentially adding images, thus bridging to the ICT curriculum. Some children may choose to record their book review, creating a short film, and using the questions as prompts.

The questions supplied include the “standard” questions about plot and recommendations, but also suggest children think about language used in the book, and encouraging them to use all their languages as they construct their review. Some children may be able to write their review in multiple languages. This activity is particularly well-suited to home learning, provided the children have access to books for review.
